Extended reach

Aginode EXTP: extended reach Ethernet over copper

Learn how Aginode's EXTP shielded copper cable extends Ethernet reach for smart campuses, industrial facilities, and large-scale network deployments.

Extended distances copper cabling

The 100-meter challenge

Structured cabling standards are based on a maximum channel length limit of 100 meters.

While this is sufficient for most office environments, today's large-scale campuses, industrial facilities, airports, and educational institutions often require network links that go beyond this limit.

Typical applications include:

  • Long-distance IP video surveillance
  • High-power PoE for Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 access points
  • Industrial automation and IoT connectivity
  • Smart buildings and extended campuses
  • Edge computing in harsh environments

Standard Cat 6 & Cat 6A: reliable, but limited to 100 meters

Cat 6 supports up to 1 Gbps and Cat 6A up to 10 Gbps within the standard 100-meter channel. Beyond this limit, both fall outside standardised performance guarantees, with no certified extension mechanism available.

Extended distances typically require additional telecom rooms, channel splitting, or media converters - each increasing cost and system complexity. In high-density PoE environments, both standards can also face challenges such as voltage drop, heat buildup, and reduced reliability under sustained PoE++ loads, especially in bundled or high-temperature installations.

As a result, longer or high-power deployments often demand alternative design approaches or additional infrastructure to maintain performance and stability.

Shielded vs. unshielded for extended reach

Unlike many extended-reach solutions that rely on unshielded (UTP) cabling, Aginode's shielded EXTP cable combines extended transmission distances with innovative shielding technology.

This shielded design provides strong EMC immunity, helping protect network performance from electrical interference commonly found in industrial facilities, transport infrastructure, and smart buildings. It also supports controlled high-power PoE delivery and enhances long-term reliability

Together, these advantages help ensure stable, predictable network performance while reducing the risks associated with interference, power losses, and challenging installation environments.

Introducing Aginode EXTP Cat 6A cable for extended reach

Aginode's shielded EXTP Category 6A cable for extended-reach is engineered to break the 100-meter barrier without compromising on standards compliance.

Aginode EXTP extended reach

Our EXTP cable is fully compliant with Cat 6A standards while providing extended reach and support for high-power PoE applications. These capabilities are enabled by two key design features: larger 22 AWG conductors, which reduce power loss and improve signal transmission over longer distances, and a patented metal cross-separator with aluminum foil shielding, which minimises crosstalk, improves protection against interference, and helps maintain stable performance under sustained high-power loads.

Backed by our 25-year warranty program for any extended-reach points in any project, it is the one cable that does not require a workaround. Download our Warranty Module for Extended Distances over Copper.

3 key benefits:

  1. Eliminate intermediate distribution rooms
With up to 160 m of single-run copper connectivity for 1G and PoE++ applications, you can simplify your network architecture by eliminating the need for extra telecom rooms, media converters, and optical repeaters. The result: lower build costs, reduced equipment footprint, and significantly lower long-term maintenance.
  2. Power PoE devices beyond 100 m
Deliver full 30W-90W PoE over extended distances with lower DC resistance, reduced voltage drop, and improved thermal performance compared to standard Cat 6 / 6A. This enables reliable direct power for 4K PTZ cameras, Wi-Fi 7 access points, and industrial IoT devices - without the need for dedicated electrical circuits.
  3. One installation. A 10 - 15 year network life cycle
Fully Cat 6A compliant, supporting 1G to 10G applications from Wi-Fi 7 to 8K surveillance and industrial IoT. Built for long-term readiness, it eliminates the need for future re-cabling or costly retrofit work - protecting your investment for the next decade and beyond.
